Digital camera market to shrink 50% in value by 2017 - IDC

Worldwide sales of digital cameras fell are forecast to fall to 76.2 million units in 2013, including 58.8 million compact models, according to IDC, essentially due to the ever rising sophistication of camera phones and apps. Counting on SLR cameras to maintain revenues, the economic slowdowns in European markets and in China are expected to hit this key segment as well. At IDC's projected volumes for 2013, revenues are likely to be USD 29.7 billion and USD 15.9 billion for overall digital cameras and compacts, respectively. This compares to 117.5 million units (94.4 mln compacts) worth USD
