DirecTV Colombia to offer 4G in 20 cities by end-2014
DirecTV expects its 4G service to reach 20 cities across Colombia by the end of the year, Portafolio reports, citing company president Roque Lombardo. The company had recently carried out a soft launch of 4G services in certain cities and expects the service to be available in 13 cities by the end of September, the executive said. DirecTV Colombia aims to reach 200,000 4G subscribers in the country in two years. Last year, DirecTV Colombia obtained 70MHz of spectrum in the 2.5GHz band.

Colombia's ICT Ministry expects total 4G LTE subscribers in the country will reach 2 million by the end of 2014, Comunidad Ola reports. However, according to estimates by LG Electronics, total 4G LTE subscribers in Colombia by end-2014 will reach 1.5 million. Colombia reached nearly 585,000 4G subscribers by the end of June 2014, according to recent figures provided by the country's ICT Ministry. Local operators Movistar, Claro, Tigo, Avantel, DirecTV and ETB already offer 4G services.

DirecTV Colombia currently has nearly 1 million subscribers, Portafolio reports, citing company president Roque Lombardo. The executive said that prepaid subscribers accounts for half of the company's subscribers base. During the first seven months of the year, DirecTV Colombia added 130,000, the executive said. The firm expects to officially launch 4G LTE services by the end of this month.
