Disney, Google reach carriage agreement for YouTube TV after 2-day blackout

Disney and Google have reached a new carriage deal, putting back a number of Disney channels back on YouTube TV, Variety reported. A contract dispute had taken them off the air for two days, with YouTube TV saying it would lower its price as a consequence to USD 50 per month. That price will now stay at USD 64.99 per month but Google will still grant the USD 15 credit promised to users when the networks went dark on the night of 17 December.

“We have already started to restore access to Disney networks like ESPN and FX, including their live and on-demand content, as well as any recordings that were previously in your [DVR] Library,” YouTube said on 19 December. “We will also be turning on the local ABC stations over the course of the day.”

No terms to the new deal were disclosed. The previous contract ended on midnight (eastern time) on 17 December, with no agreement yet in sight. Disney then removed its over a dozen cable networks and ABC-owned channels from YouTube TV. The blackout also caused customers also lost access to DVR recordings of Disney programming.
