Dobrindt outlines proposals for local broadband funding

Communities in undersupplied regions can expect federal grants of up to 50 percent of the costs for the broadband expansion according to a position paper transport minister Alexander Dobrindt presented, Faz.net reports. The communities' own contribution would be 10 percent of the total cost. The government's target is to provide all of Germany with internet connections with download speeds of at least 50 Mbps by 2018. Some EUR 2.7 billion will be invested by the government, of which EUR 1.33 billion comes from the proceeds of the last spectrum auction. Economist Marcel Fratzscher considers
