Dominican regulator calls for earlier analogue switchoff

The Dominican Republic's telecommunications regulator Indotel has called on the government to accelerate the migration to digital terrestrial television (DTT) with a view to freeing up spectrum and meeting the country's Republica Digital programme. In a statement, Indotel's chairman Jose del Castillo Savinon said bringing forward the transition to DTT would free up some 180MHz of spectrum for broadband expansion. The country "risks missing out on technological progress if it doesn't begin implementing the switchover to digital television as soon as possible," said the Indotel chairman. The
