Dominican Republic suspends AWS spectrum tender

Tuesday 15 May 2018 | 11:02 CET | News
The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) has suspended a tender for a 30MHz block of spectrum in the 1700-2100MHz (AWS) band following a complaint from Servicios Ampliados de Telefonos (Satel). In a statement, Indotel said it decided to halt the process after Satel complained that it already owns the rights to operate those frequencies. Viva Dominica was the only bidder for the spectrum after reportedly offering USD 30 million for the spectrum, with rivals Altice Dominicana and Claro Dominicana declining to take part. The regulator said it would investigate the allegations before deciding whether to allocate the 30MHz block.
