The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) has announced plans to install a free Wi-Fi network at the headquarters of the country’s Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and its 18 regional campuses. Indotel’s chairman Jose del Castillo Savinon revealed the plans during the presentation of 1,000 computers to the university with a view to improving access to ICT for students, teachers and administrative staff alike.

Indotel last year revealed that it will activate some 5,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots in parks, public squares, universities, schools and hospitals throughout the country as part of its “Digital Republic" programme for 2016-2020.
