DoT seeks to waive BSNL microwave, satellite fees

India's Department of Telecom (DoT) has asked the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) unit to exempt state-owned communications carrier Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) from payment of both royalty charges for point-to-point microwave links and satellite spectrum levies with immediate effect, The Economic Times reports. The telco currently pays INR 960 million annually as royalty to DoT's wireless planning cell for microwave-based connectivity across the seven northeastern states.
