DT to expand virtual STB trial to Croatia in Q4

Friday 6 September 2013 | 09:17 CET | News
Deutsche Telekom has outlined its progress in developing a 'virtual' set-top box, at its Network Day in Berlin. The company's T-Labs started work on the project in late 2011 and has been testing the service in initial field trials, in collaboration with partner ActiveVideo. The latest prototype of the virtual set-top box was presented for the first time in Berlin. The aim of the virtual box is to move applications to the cloud, where they can run on a standard web browser and be sent as a video data stream (H.264/H.265) to devices such as HDMI dongles, smart TVs, tablets, PCs and smartphones.
