Dtac appeals against regulator decision to cut off 850 MHz network

Thai operator Total Access Communication (Dtac) announced it has filed a complaint with the Administrative Court against the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) over its access to the 850 MHz band. The NBTC decided that the customers of Dtac could continue to use the 850 MHz network after the end of the concession on 15 September only if the company participated in the 900 MHz auction on 18 August. If Dtac did not comply with such condition, it would lose its rights to the band. In the end, none of the operators joined the 900 MHz auction.

Given that the end of concession is approaching, Dtac said that, in order to protect its subscribers’ right to continuously use the 850 MHz network after 15 September, the company has filed a suit with the Administrative Court to revoke the condition imposed by the NBTC decision and has lodged a petition seeking a court order to temporarily protect subscriber rights during the court’s adjudication process.
