Dutch frequency auction pushed to summer 2012

Thursday 6 October 2011 | 13:39 CET | News
The upcoming Dutch frequency auction will reserve three licenses for newcomers, giving them a better shot to accessing the mobile internet market. With the parliamentary decision, the auction may now be scheduled for summer 2012 instead of for the spring, minister of economic affairs Maxime Verhagen said in a letter to Parliament. Two licenses in the 800 MHz band and one license in the 900 MHz band will be put aside. Each entrant will be able to purchase up to two of these licenses, ensuring room for at least two newcomers. Newcomers may also bid for licenses not reserved for newcomers.
