Dutch govt plans bigger budget for data protection regulator

The Dutch privacy regulator AP will receive more funds and staff to help with the implementation of the EU's new data protection rules, the justice ministry announced in parliament. The additional budget will form part of the legislation for implementing the General Data Protection Regulation, which will give the data protection regulator a number of new tasks. An external consultant estimated that the changes for the regulator could increase its budget by EUR 12-22 million, compared to EUR 7.7 million per year at the moment.
