Dutch govt prepares ban on risky suppliers for 5G networks - report

Tuesday 3 December 2019 | 09:20 CET | News

The Dutch government is preparing to forbid telecom operators from working with certain suppliers on critical parts of their 5G networks, Nieuwsuur reported. Sources in The Hague told the news programme that the policy would not name Huawei specifically, but prohibit the use of suppliers from countries with an "offensive cyberstrategy" or that are forced to share information with state officials.

Huawei will not be named, as the government does not want to dissuade any specific companies. The state secretary Mona Keijzer is expected to discuss the plans at the meeting of EU telecom ministers on 03 December.

Parliament was briefed on 26 November in a private session on the measures proposed to protect 5G networks.

Nieuwsuur also reports that the government is working on plans to move the satellite listening station in the north of the country abroad, in order to clear spectrum for 5G. It's not known yet where the satellites will go.
