Dutch govt proposes fewer must-carry channels

The Dutch government wants to relax the requirement for a minimum 30 channels from pay-TV providers and give consumers more freedom to choose the channels they want. The proposal is included in a brief sent by state secretary for media Sander Dekker to parliament. Dekker wants to drop the legal requirement for pay-TV providers to offer certain channels and a minimum package of 30 stations. A must-carry requirement would remain for just eight channels: the three Dutch public channels, three Belgian public channels, one local and one regional channel.
