Dutch govt starts consultation on self-drive cars

Dutch Infrastructure Minister Melanie Schultz van Haegen wants to see wide-scale tests of self-drive cars and lorries on public roads start in the country next year. She announced an online consultation on a proposal to lift regulatory restrictions on the new technology. The resulting legislation will be sent to parliament early next year. Schultz announced last summer that the government aims to make the Netherlands a leader in self-drive cars. Cars that can ride in a train and communicate with each other and traffic controllers can provide a positive contribution to traffic management,
