Dutch govt temporarily shelves data retention bill

The Dutch Lower House of Parliament has temporarily shelved the proposed data retention laws. The pending bill was declared sensitive on 11 April and will therefore not be addressed by the exiting government, but by the next one.

seems like a smart move for the time being, especially after that privacy bill incident in the USA and the recent data retention uproar in Australia where the governments, either to make things more private or just paving the way for isps to traffic data, gave up on the idea of user privacy and leaving users with their own wits and third party tools like ivacy, tor and other anti-tracking software.
