Dutch govt to decide on data retention in mid-November

The government will inform parliament in mid-November about the consequences of the EU court ruling striking down the EU data retention directive, according to the justice ministry. Minister Ivo Opstelten responded to questions from the Security and Justice Committee, saying the government awaited an opinion on the matter from the Council of State. As a result of the court ruling, all EU member states are required to amend their legislation on data retention, which required communication service providers to store customer data for eventual law enforcement purposes.
