Dutch minister sees no alternative to copy fee, download ban

There is, for the moment, no viable alternative to a private copy fee or download ban in order to protect copyrights, Dutch secretary of state Fred Teeven (safety and justice) wrote to Parliament. Teeven said that the Norwegian way of collecting tax money for copyrights, was "an impassable road," not fair to those who never download digital content and inconsistent with EU regulations. Parliament will this week vote on the motion put forth by Labour Party PvdA and Independent Party D66 against the introduction of the download ban. D66 also wants to halt blockades of peer-to-peer sites like
