Dutch minister to raise net neutrality at Telecoms Council

Dutch economic affairs minister Maxime Verhagen is ready to lobby EU Commissioner Neelie Kroes for net neutrality rules at the EU level, the minister said in response to questions from parliament. Labour party MP Martijn van Dam raised the issue issue after reports of a structural block on mobile VoIP traffic by European operators. Verhagen said he sees net neutrality as an instrument towards maintaining an open internet. Operators should not be allowed to charge extra for over-the-top services such as mobile VoIP and IM.
