Dutch minister wants phone ban for cyclists from July 2019

There should be a ban on the operation of mobile electronic devices for drivers of any kind of vehicle, Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Cora van Nieuwenhuizen wrote in a letter to Parliament. The new rules would extend current legislation, which prohibits the operation and physical holding of telephones and smartphones for drivers of motor vehicles, to cyclists and to a broader category of devices. According to the letter, mobile electronic devices do not only include mobile phones and smartphones, but also tablets and media players.
