Dutch ministry to allow GSM licences extension

The Dutch economic affairs ministry has approved a decision to make the current GSM licences open to extension. The move is needed due to the short time period between the planned spectrum auction in October and the expiry of the GSM licences three months later. The government decision allows the licences to be extended for up to 24 months, in order to ensure the continuity of services. The licence-holders must apply for an extension, which can be subject to conditions such as payment or working with other operators in a transition period.
