Dutch multi-play revenues grow to EUR 1.15 bln in Q2, VodafoneZiggo biggest

Revenues from multi-play packages totaled EUR 1.154 billion in the second quarter in the Netherlands, up 0.5 percent from the previous quarter. Growth in the number of multi-play subscribers slowed over the same period, according to the latest research from Telecompaper. The number of households with broadband and at least one other service (fixed or mobile) from the same preovider increased by 0.1 percent to 6.7 million at the end of June.

Multi-play revenues are expected to accelerate in the second half of the year following price increases in July by the market leaders Ziggo and KPN. Growth in subscribers numbers is expected to remain at a similar level to previous quarters, the Dutch Consumer Multiplay Market report found.

Fixed-mobile subscribers growing

The number of subscribers taking both fixed and mobile services from the same provider rose 2.5 percent to 2.3 million in Q2. The fixed-mobile segment accounted for EUR 521 million in revenues. The classic quad-play is the most common type of package, accounting for almost three-quarters of fixed-mobile customers, but the combination broadband, TV and mobile is growing the fastest and reached 17.5 percent of the fixed-mobile customers in Q2. KPN remains the biggest fixed-mobile provider with a 56.1 percent share, VodafoneZiggo grew to 41.5 percent, and T-Mobile was the smallest with around 2 percent of customers.

Classic triple-play drops to less than 45% share

The classic triple-play of fixed telephony, broadband and TV is still used by the most subscribers, but its share fell to 44.9 percent in Q2. The dual-play of broadband and TV and the quad-play are taking over its share; the former grew by 0.4 percent points to 12.4 percent of subscribers in Q2 and the latter reached 25.5 percent of multi-play subscribers, up 0.5 percent.

On the entire multi-play market, VodafoneZiggo is the biggest provider with 47.8 percent of subscribers, followed by KPN with 39.5 percent. VodafoneZiggo also takes the largest share of revenues, at 48.5 percent or EUR 560 million, while KPN was good for 42 percent or EUR 485 million.

Telecompaper expects fixed-mobile bundles to take an increasingly bigger share of the market, driven by growth at T-Mobile and VodafoneZiggo. The traditional triple-play will be replaced more with broadband, TV and mobile from the same provider.
