Dutch opposition parties call for end to data retention law

The Dutch opposition parties D66, GroenLinks and SP have questioned the government's intention to maintain data retention legislation, despite an EU court ruling overturning the associated directive. Parliament is considering new legislation to amend the data retention requirements. In questions to the government, the parties said the government should acknowledge that the data retention law violates the EU constitution and European convention of human rights. If this is the case, as the Council of State has already suggested, the law would violate the Dutch constitution as well. There also
