Dutch privacy regulator advises against data retention law

The Dutch privacy regulator CBp has advised against implementation of the government's proposed data retention legislation. The revised legislation on storing communications data for eventual law enforcement purposes is not lawful and should not be sent to parliament, the CBp said in its advice to the justice ministry. The current legislation is in need of revision following the EU Court of Justice ruling last year striking down the EU data retention directive.
