Dutch public broadcaster to charge for some catch-up TV

The Dutch public broadcaster NPO is trying to see if some of its catch-up TV service could become paid, it said in its 2012-2016 budget plan. The NPO said it will come under pressure as a result of the Dutch government's decision to reduce money allocated to the broadcaster. The NPO said that its news and current affairs programmes will remain free but that copyrighted programmes will have to be paid. The NPO also wants to significantly reduce the number of its digital channels (twelve to eight) and what it offers on the internet. The number of its websites, currently more than a thousand,
