Dutch public prosecutor, police back data retention law

The Dutch public prosecutor and police sent a report to parliament underlining their support for maintaining legislation requiring communications providers to retain data on customers for eventual law enforcement purposes. The Dutch justice minister discussed the pending legislation with the lower house 25 March and handed over the report to MPs. The report outlines around 100 cases showing how data retention is essential to successful prosecution of criminals.
