Dutch regulator critical of EC wholesale broadband proposal

Henk Don, a director at the Dutch telecom regulator ACM, has expressed concern about the European Commission's direction with wholesale broadband regulation. The latest reports suggest that the EC is focusing on encouraging the roll-out of faster broadband and may offer operators, often incumbents, lighter regulation in exchange for investment commitments. In an interview with the Financeele Dagblad newspaper, Don said this would not be suitable for more developed markets, such as the Netherlands and Belgium, where it could create or reinforce a duopoly or oligopoly.
