Dutch regulator to ask EC for say on Ziggo-UPC merger

Dutch regulator ACM has confirmed it will ask the European Commission for a say on the proposed takeover of the country's largest cable operator Ziggo by Liberty Global, owner of the second-largest cable network, UPC. The ACM is the telecom regulator, but also the competition regulator in the Netherlands, giving it a right to consider mergers and acquisitions. Liberty, which is active throughout Europe, has said it plans to go directly to the European Commission for the merger clearance, but the latter will have to consider any request from the Dutch regulator to handle the case.
