Dutch security report sees severe impact from cyberattacks

Wednesday 21 December 2016 | 16:55 CET | News
Cyber-attacks could severely disrupt Dutch society, according to a national security assessment from the RIVM, the national health and safety institute. Its report provides an impact assessment of possible disaster scenarios for the country. On a scale of 1 to 5, only a breach of the sea dikes is considered to pose the biggest threat of a catastrophe. A flu epidemic and major electricity outage come next in category 4, while a global disruption of the internet or satellite networks such as GPS or a cyberattack on critical sectors meets category 3.
