Dutch tapping law goes into effect, adjustments to come

The Dutch Intelligence and Security Services Act, or Tapping Law, went into effect on 1 May. The law gives intelligence services new powers to tap cables and collect information. The old law dates from 2002 and provided only the possibility to intercept communication over the air. Most internet traffic now goes via (fibre optic) cables. The law will give intelligence services AIVD and MIVD more power.
