Dutch 'tapping law' powers have not yet been put to much use - study

The new power of Dutch intelligence services to tap broader conversations has not yet yielded anything in practice, according to the Wiv Evaluation Committee. Two and a half years after the introduction of the law, data is being tapped, but that information has not yet been used in practice. The Intelligence and Services Act 2017 (Wiv 2017), popularly referred to as the 'tapping law,' allowed intelligence services AIVD and NIVD to broaden their tapping powers. It went into effect on 1 May 2018. Under the previous intelligence law, the intelligence services were only allowed specific tapping
