Dutch telecom networks not hacked by security services

Monday 14 October 2013 | 10:38 CET | News
There is no evidence that foreign intelligence services have been eavesdropping on Dutch phone traffic in the past two years, according to a government response to parliamentary questions. However, the media reports of telecom networks in neighbouring countries being hacked has prompted incumbent operator KPN to conduct additional investigation, the government said. In a written response, the ministers for justice, internal affairs and economic affairs said that KPN's network had been hacked in early 2012, with e-mail information stolen, but this was not the work of foreign security services.
