Dutch telecoms state secretary Keijzer resigns

The Dutch telecoms secretary Mona Keijzer has stepped down. Her duties as state secretary at the ministry for economic affairs and climate will be taken over by the acting minister Stef Blok.

Keijzer was forced to resign after an interview in the newspaper de Telegraaf quoted her criticising the government's policy on coronavirus entry passes for public places. The cabinet said ministers needed to show unity and her comments could not be left unanswered.

Keijzer is also a member of parliament for the Christian Democrat party (CDA).

Her eventual replacement will inherit a number of important dossiers, including resolving the use of the 3.5 GHz band for 5G and auctioning the mobile frequencies.
