EC called on to oppose German hate speech law

A group of civil society and industry associations have written to the European Commission asking for action against Germany's proposed legislation tightening take-down requirements and raising fines for hate speech online. The groups claim that the legislation allows social media sites like Facebook to set arbitrary definitions of what constitutes hate speech, fake news or pornography and could also result in legal content being take down due to fear of the high fines proposed for websites hosting such material. This would be an infringement of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU,
