EC consults on Lamy report on use of 700 MHz band

The European Commission has opened a public consultation on the possible transition of more UHF broadcasting bands to mobile services. A report published in September 2014, conducted by the former European commissioner Pascal Lamy, looked at possible uses for the spectrum freed up from the switch to digital broadcasting and the needs of the telecom and broadcast sectors. The key recommendation of the report was that the 700 MHz band should be reserved for mobile broadband services in the EU from 2020. The spectrum is currently used for terrestrial TV services and wireless microphones. These
