EC extends investigation of 3 Austria, Orange deal - report

Friday 14 September 2012 | 11:26 CET | News
The European Commission (EC) is set to extend its investigation into the proposed takeover of Orange Austria by 3 Austria, reports APA. The EC is understood to have told 3 Austria that it plans to issue a 'Statement of Objection' in the week of 17 September, extending the Phase II investigation. The EC is concerned that the reduction of mobile network operators in Austria from four to three will damage competition. 3 Austria is understood to be stunned by the decision to extend the investigation, especially as it has already agreed to open the combined network to MVNOs.
