EC gathers support for ZTE, Huawei investigation - report

EU trade commissioner Karel De Gucht will ask for support from the other members of the European Commission to start investigations into alleged unfair trade practices by Chinese network-equipment suppliers Huawei Technologies and ZTE, the Wall Street Journal reports. According to an unnamed EU official, the EC will discuss the issue at a meeting on 15 May. De Gucht hasn't yet decided whether to launch the investigation, the report said. EU officials contend Huawei and ZTE have used subsidies from the Chinese government, such as cheap credit from state-owned banks offered to the Chinese
