EC orders next-generation Galileo satellites from Airbus, Thales Alenia Space

The European Commission has awarded industrial contracts to Airbus Defence & Space and Thales Alenia Space worth a total of EUR 1.47 billion to build the first batch of Galileo's second-generation 'G2' satellites. Both companies will each build six spacecraft for the global navigation satellite system. The first satellites of this second generation will be placed in orbit by the end of 2024.
