EC report recommends 700 MHz band release for 2020

The European Commission has recommended that the 700 MHz band be reserved for mobile broadband services in the EU from 2020. The spectrum is currently used for terrestrial TV services and wireless microphones. These would be expected to vacate the spectrum by 2020. The remaining spectrum for broadcast services would be preserved until 2030, with a decision in 2025 on uses beyond that. The recommendations are part of a report by the former European commissioner Pascal Lamy looking at the needs of the telecom and broadcast sectors.
