EC to help countries comply with upcoming data protection rules, says only 2 countries ready

The European Commission has published a set of guidelines aimed at helping member states prepare for the new EU data protection rules (GDPR) set to go into effect in Europe from 25 May. The Commission also launched a new online tool dedicated to SMEs. To comply with the rules, members states have to amend existing laws or set up European Data Protection Boards. To date, only two countries, namely Germany and Austria are fully ready, the Commission said.
