EC to propose European content quota for on-demand services

The European Commission is planning to require that on-demand services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime devote at least 20 percent of their catalogues to European content, according to a draft of the proposed Audiovisual Media Services Directive seen by Reuters. The EU-wide minimum quota requirement is part of the forthcoming overhaul of broadcasting rules and aims to ensure the "prominence" of European films and TV shows while boosting circulation and funding. EU member states will also have the option of requiring streaming services not based in that country but targeting their audience to
