EDPB confirms data protection guidance during Covid-19 epidemic

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has reinforced its guidance on data protection in the context of the Covid-19 outbreak at its 24th plenary session in Brussels. In reply to a letter from the United States Mission to the European Union, the EDPB agreed to the derogation of article 49 of the GDPR to enable international flows in view of the exceptional nature of the health crisis and the need for collaboration between EEA and non-EEA scientists in the search for vaccines and treatments against Covid-19.
