EE does not expect 5G networks until at least 2022

Thursday 22 May 2014 | 10:58 CET | News
EE believes that the commercial roll-out of 5G will not start until at least 2022, reports IDG News Service. Speaking at the Royal Institution in London, EE's principal network architect, Professor Andy Sutton, said that 5G standards would be ready by around 2020, with some Asian countries starting a little sooner. Sutton said that 5G networks would come in Europe around 2022/2023 as part of the natural evolution of existing LTE Advanced and 4G networks. He added that 5G networks would be able to deliver 1,000-5,000 times more data capacity than current 3G and 4G networks.
