Eindhoven researchers develop faster Wi-Fi alternative

Friday 17 March 2017 | 09:35 CET | News
Researchers at the Technical University of Eindhoven have developed a new solution for the problem of slow Wi-Fi. The wireless network uses infrared waves with capacity of over 40 Gbps. The wireless data is distributed from a few central 'light antennas', which can be placed for example on the ceiling. The antennas can direct precisely light waves sent over fibre. They do no t require any movement and hence no power supply or maintenance. By changing the light frequency, they change the direction of the light wave. The much higher frequencies of the infrared waves increase the capacity
