Ericsson has announced a contract to modernise the radio access network (RAN) deployed by Millicom’s Tigo brand across Paraguay and Honduras. Under the terms of the multi-year deal, the Swedish company will implement its Ericsson Radio System portfolio into around 1,000 of Tigo’s sites starting this year.
The rollout will provide the operator with full 4x4 MIMO capabilities in the two countries as well as indoor coverage through the Radio Dot System and micro radios for hotspot capacity in Paraguay. As part of the project, Ericsson said it will also be expanding Tigo’s existing network and modernising its 2G/3G and 4G sites to prepare it for the provision of future 5G and IoT services.
