Ericsson begins virtualisation of TIM network in Turin

Telecom Italia (TIM) and Ericsson announced that they've started to digitalise the operator's nationwide radio access network in Italy starting in the city of Turin, where the first virtual Radio Access Network (vRAN) platform in a live advanced LTE network has been successfully deployed. The move is part of a joint project called DigiTIM, which aims to boost customer experience and operational efficiency through the virtualisation and automation of network systems. A year ago, TIM conducted the first live test of a virtual radio access network in Europe at its Turin innovation labs.
