Ericsson launches Zero Site small cell trial in Santander

Ericsson has launched a trial in the northern Spanish city of Santander of small cell technology embedded into streetlamps to provide optimal urban mobile broadband coverage with minimal visual impact. The system, dubbed Zero Site, combines advanced radio equipment for urban mobile broadband coverage and new-generation LED lighting technology to provide power savings of 50 to 80 percent, according to Ericsson. Jointly developed by Ericsson and Philips, Zero Site aims to address the planet's ever-growing urban population, which creates an increasing need for basic services such as mobile
