Ericsson proposes Atlas Copco's Leten as board chairman

Ericsson said that its nomination committee will propose Ronnie Leten as new chairman of its board of Ericsson. Current board chairman Leif Johansson has already said he will not stand for reelection at the 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Between 1985 and 2017, Leten has held various positions at Atlas Copco, including president and CEO since 2009. He is currently a board member at SKF, chairman of the board of Electrolux and proposed chairman of the board of Epiroc, which Atlas Copco aims to spin off in 2018.

The nomination committee will also propose Kurt Jofs as new member of the board. Jofs was responsible for Ericsson’s Networks business from 2003-2008 and is currently the chairman of the board at Tieto. 

Kristin Skogen Lund has told the nomination committee that she will not be available for reelection.

Ericsson makes changes to executive team

Ericsson's board of directors appointed Fredrik Jejdling as EVP, effective 7 November. Jejdling also keeps his role as head of Business Area Networks and member of the Ericsson Executive Team. At the same time, EVPs and advisors to the CEO Jan Frykhammar and Magnus Mandersson will leave their roles as EVPs and the Ericsson Executive Team, effective 7 November. Both Frykhammar and Mandersson will leave Ericsson to pursue other opportunities, the company said in a press release.

Ericsson net loss swells to SEK 4.3 billion in Q3, sales fall 6%

Ericsson saw its net loss widen to SEK 4.3 billion for the third quarter, from SEK 0.2 billion a year ago, due to a number of one-time restructuring costs and writedowns. Revenues at the network equipment maker also fell 6 percent, to SEK 47.8 billion, and adjusted operating profit, excluding all the charges, was breakeven.

Ericsson cutting over 100 jobs in Ireland

Swedish telecoms equipment maker Ericsson is looking to cut up to 130 jobs in Ireland as part of a previously-announced global restructuring, reports RTE. The SIPTU union said it was looking to reduce its Irish workforce through a voluntary redundancy scheme. The job losses will mainly effect Ericsson's Dublin operations. In a statement, Ericsson said that it remained committed to R&D Ireland and that it would continue to employ over 1,200 workers across its Dublin and Athlone operations.

Ericsson opens ASIC design centre in Austin

Ericsson is opening an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) design center in Austin, Texas. The centre will focus on microelectronics and accelerating the path to 5G commercialization. The Austin ASIC Design Center is open now and recruitments are ongoing, Ericsson also said.

Ericsson Italy to lay off 600 more workers – report

Ericsson has informed Italian trade unions that it plans to lay off 600 more workers in addition to the 300-plus already announced, reports Cor.com. The news comes after members of the SLC-Cgil, Fistel-Cisl and Uilcom-UIL trade unions held a nationwide strike in June to protest against a redundancy procedure involving 315 Ericsson workers from its telecom unit and 39 from IT Solutions & Services. Ericsson enables voice calls for wearables

Ericsson said it released a new network functionality to enable multi-SIM for voice calls and is deploying it in more than 10 operator networks. A number of mobile smartwatches with a mobile phone number support the new feature, Ericsson said.
