ESPN, Verizon settle lawsuit around flexible pay-TV deals

ESPN and Verizon Communications have settled a New York State lawsuit filed in April 2015 about new Verizon's Fios TV offerings. ESPN said the deals, which allowed customers to customise packages and choose add-ons which included ESPN, violated existing distribution agreements.

ESPN and Verizon gave no details as to the terms of the settlement and stressed these will not be disclosed. Both highlighted their long-standing relationship and partnership, saying they looked forward to further working together in the years to come.

The US-based cable network ESPN plans to offer a package of live programming directly to consumers over the internet, a person with knowledge of the plans told The Information. The new service from the sports channel won't include high-value content like professional football or basketball, but rather more niche leagues and possibly some types of college sports, the report said. ESPN has offered some content directly before, but only for specific events, such as the Cricket World Cup in 2015.
