ETB, UNE, Tigo, Movistar to share 4G infrastructure
Colombian operators Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota (ETB), Tigo, Unidad de Negocios Estrategicos de las Empresas Publicas de Medellin (UNE-EPM) and Movistar have signed an agreement to jointly deploy and share 4G network infrastructure. The strategy targets the government's 4G spectrum tender scheduled for 26 June.

Tigo to buy ETB's stake in Colombia Movil for USD 240 mln

Colombian operator Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Bogota (ETB) has agreed to sell its 24.99 percent stake in Colombia Movil to Tigo for COP 463.8 billion (approximately USD 240 million). ETB plans to use the net proceeds from the sale to launch 4G services. Back in June, ETB in partnership with Colombia Movil, acquired 30Mhz of AWS spectrum for provision of 4G services across Colombia. Following the completion of the transaction, ETB will keep 50 percent of this spectrum, El Espectador reports.

Colombia 4G auction to reposition smaller players

Colombia's recently concluded 4G auction will boost competition, mobile data growth and network capacity, according to a report from Pyramid Research. At end-June, Colombia awarded 4G licenses to Movistar, Claro, DirecTV, Avantel, and Tigo, raising COP 770 billion (EUR 308 million) that will go to expanding ICT access in rural areas.

UNE-EPM acquires municipal operator ETP

Colombian operator UNE EPM has completed the acquisition of Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Pereira (ETP). UNE previously had a 56.14 percent stake in ETP, and has now acquired an additional 43.84 percent stake from the Pereira local authorities for USD 34 million. Following this transaction, UNE owns 99.98 percent of ETP, Prensario reports, citing UNE president Marc Eichmann.

Colombia shortlists 6 bidders in 4G spectrum tender

The Colombian government has evaluated offers for compliance with the requirements of its 4G spectrum tender. The government has also announced the 6 bidders shortlisted for the final stage of the tender. The list includes Colombia Telecomunicaciones (Movistar), the Tigo – ETB consortium, Directv, America Movil (Claro), Azteca 4G, and Avantel, local newspaper El Tiempo reports.

Colombia hopes to raise USD 250 million in the 4G spectrum tender scheduled for 26 June, Portafolio reports, citing Colombia's ICT minister Diego Molano. Colombia will free up the 700MHz band for APT mobile broadband for 60 percent of the population in early 2013, ahead of a 4G licence tender in the third quarter, spectrum regulator ANE's Juan Manuel Wilches Duran, told the GSMA in an interview for Telesemana. Carlos Slim rejects monopoly accusations in Colombia

Carlos Slim has rejected claims by lawmakers in Bogota that regulations need to be imposed on its telecoms company America Movil because it has a dominant position in the country's mobile market, Dow Jones Newswires reports.
